I dont understand why there was no windows OS installation? When you boot from your recovery Cd and if no drive or O/S is shown then try the method in this link. I already have image burn so this works out great. This allows you to restore to factory settings.

The Windows Boot Manager could work but it is very fiddly and mysterious in 8.1. I booted from the XP CD as described above and did fixmbr only. Neither of my hard drives are there nor is my DVD. Have a look at http://www.multibooters.co.uk/multiboot.html and read down to the section on multiple Vistas and see if that explains what was happening. Have you fixed yours yet?
